Tracy: Another Weekend of Children Caught in Chicago's Cycle of Violence
CHICAGO — According to ABC-7 and Chicago Police Department statistics, at least 22 people were shot over the weekend, including two who were killed. Among the victims were four children and seven teenagers, including a 16-year-old boy who was found shot to death in the Chatham neighborhood.
"The first responsibility of government is to protect the people it serves,” said Republican U.S. Senate candidate Don Tracy. “Yet in Illinois and Chicago, career politicians have spent years weakening accountability, undermining law enforcement, and embracing policies that put the interests of criminals ahead of law-abiding families."
"When Lt. Governor Stratton says she wants to bring the Illinois Blueprint to Washington, look at the results: Another weekend. More shootings. More children caught in the crossfire. More grieving families. This isn’t a model to scale. Illinoisans deserve leaders who will stand with victims, back the police, and make sure violent criminals face real consequences."
"Chicago is one of the world's great cities. But safe neighborhoods cannot be a luxury reserved for a few communities. Every family, whether they live in Chicago, the suburbs, or downstate Illinois, deserves to feel safe in their own neighborhood. This shouldn’t be a partisan issue. It is part of the foundation upon which strong societies are built."
Don Tracy is available for phone, video, and in-studio interviews.
