Don Tracy: House GOP Health Care Bill Takes on Soaring Costs

SPRINGFIELD –  The U.S. House has passed the Republican-backed Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act to lower premiums and expand affordable coverage options for all working families.

The Republican measure focuses on addressing skyrocketing health care costs without writing blank checks to insurance companies or pouring billions more taxpayer dollars into a failing system. Instead, it expands health care market competition, empowers workers and small businesses, and stabilizes health insurance markets.

“The House just took a meaningful step toward fixing what every Illinois family already knows is broken: the cost of health care,” said Don Tracy, a candidate for US Senate. “This bill delivers bold, common-sense solutions to lower premiums, expand real choices, and put patients, rather than bureaucrats and special interests, back at the center of their care.

“This is exactly the kind of practical leadership Illinoisans are demanding. Rather than propping up a broken system, Republicans are offering real solutions that help families afford coverage and help employers provide it by bringing costs down for everyone.”

By contrast, Tracy’s Democrat opponents have promoted failed government subsidies over relief for all families and businesses.

“Too many Democrats continue to defend a status quo that has left some families drowning in medical debt and facing another round of steep premium increases,” Tracy said. “My opponents, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Juliana Stratton and Robin Kelly, are all walking in lock step with their party bosses and special interests to protect an unaffordable system that keeps failing the people it’s supposed to serve.

“With this bill now headed to the Senate, it is clear: Illinois needs a U.S. Senator who will fight for lower premiums, expanded access, and common-sense solutions, not another career politician who thinks the answer to every problem is more government spending."

Don Tracy is available for phone, video, and in-studio interviews on this topic.
