Don Tracy: Another Chicagoland Weekend of Violent Crime
CHICAGO — Over the past weekend, Chicagoans and suburbanites once again were victimized by a disturbing wave of violence, including shootings, sexual assaults, stabbings, burglaries, and multiple homicides.
Among the incidents reported over the weekend:
Man killed inside car in Humboldt Park: A man was shot to death inside his vehicle Friday night on the Northwest Side in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. Police are investigating the homicide.
Stabbing and attempted robbery on CTA Green Line: A suspect tried to rob a CTA passenger before stabbing him on the city's West Side early Friday, Chicago police said.
Two men shot on West Side (West Garfield Park): Sunday night, two 28-year-old men were injured in a shooting while sitting in a vehicle; one is in critical condition and the other is in fair condition. Detectives are investigating.
Sexual assault on the Blue Line: A man followed the victim off the train at the Logan Square Blue Line stop, and followed her three blocks before knocking her down and sexually assaulting her.
Woman attacked and sexually assaulted outside her home: A woman was beaten, strangled and sexually assaulted outside her Mount Prospect home.
Man charged with child sexual assault and child pornography: Police have charged a 32-year old Roselle man with sexual assault on a child and possession of child pornography.
Joliet double homicide: A 36-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds Sunday morning in Joliet; a 29-year-old man was taken into custody with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Suburban Oak Forest shooting: A 68-year-old man was found fatally shot inside his home Friday evening in Oak Forest.
As of January 26, Chicago alone has recorded 101 shootings, 23 shooting deaths, and 25 homicides in 2026.
U.S. Senate candidate Don Tracy issued the following statement:
“This weekend’s violence is heartbreaking and infuriating. Families were shot in their cars, attacked on public transit, assaulted outside their homes, and robbed in their neighborhoods. These are not just statistics. These are lives forever changed by a total failure of leadership.
“For years, career politicians have advanced extreme agendas that defund the police, favor criminals over victims, and excuse lawlessness, while everyday Illinoisans pay the price. Violent offenders are released back onto the streets and law enforcement is undermined by political leadership that treats public safety as an afterthought.
“The most basic responsibility of government is to provide public safety. The career politicians in charge in Chicago and Illinois have totally failed to deliver even the minimum required of them.
“When communities aren’t safe, families leave, businesses close, and the cost-of-living rises even higher. I’m running for the U.S. Senate because everyday Illinoisans deserve strong leadership that puts their safety and their futures ahead of political ideology and extreme agendas.”
