Democrats’ Shutdown Puts Illinois Families’ Food and Security at Risk
SPRINGFIELD – As the federal government shutdown drags into its third week, U.S. Senate candidate Don Tracy is calling out Democrats in Washington for voting against the very people they claim to support, with reports out on delayed SNAP benefits and Nuclear Security Administration furloughs. Allowing Chuck Schumer’s filibustered government shutdown to continue is now threatening both working families and national security.
U.S. Senate Candidate Don Tracy issued the following statement in response:
“Democrats in the U.S. Senate are voting against the very people they claim to support. Because of their refusal to end the shutdown, millions of working families, seniors, and low-income Americans are now facing real harm, including delayed SNAP benefits and to the furlough of 80% of the National Nuclear Security Administration workforce, which puts our national security at risk.
“Republicans have voted twelve times to reopen the government with a clean continuing resolution that keeps vital services funded while negotiations continue. But Washington Democrats would rather play politics than pay our troops, feed struggling families, or keep America safe.
“If Raja Krishnamoorthi, Juliana Stratton and Robin Kelly won’t stop making excuses for their party’s obstruction and start demanding an end to this shutdown, then they’ve chosen party politics over Illinois families and it's clear they won't be the strong, independent leader Illinois needs.
“It’s time to stop the games, reopen the government, and put Illinois families first.”
Don is available for video and phone interviews on this topic, with some availability for in-studio discussions.
